Contract terminated during probation period

I've found myself in a bit of a 'between the cracks' position.
I started my employment in December, and have a six month probation period.
My employer has terminated my contract, as they've decided that the part of the business I work for won't be their priority once this current crisis is over.
During probation, the notice period is 1 week, although they're actually paying me for 2 weeks.
As my role in the company is disappearing, there's no incentive for them to retain me and pay me the 80% salary offered by the government.
Also, it seems that my mortgage protection insurance excludes claims if the claimant 'failed to pass a trial or probationary period'.
It seems that the failure in my case was not on my part, but I wondered if this could still result in my being unable to make a successful claim.
Any thoughts or ideas?

I would guess that the company withdrawing the role would mean that you hadn't failed to "pass" the probation.A bit like being made redundant rather than being sacked.1

Even though your insurance may not cover you, you would likley be entitled to a mortgage holiday. Depending on your skill set there may still be jobs out there, some places are doing video interviews, and some jobs are suitable to working from home. There are also a lot of online training resources out there, now might be a good time to upskill while looking for work1
