Should Hotel offer a refund ?

We booked a two night stay on Skye in an independent hotel. Yesterday they contacted us to say they were cancelling the booking, understandably. They have not offered us a refund but have offered us a rebooking within the next 12 months. If we accept this and we still cant go within the 12 months time limit, for whatever reason, or the hotel is no longer in business, what would be our rights then. Foolishly we did not pay on our credit card. We do have travel insurance. Do the hotel have any obligation to offer us a full refund? They stated the deposit was not refundable so would they only have to offer us half the money back?

EE will not offer us a land line when we are due to renew our contract in August. We have recently made a successful bid for funding of superfast broad band to our village and have to sign up with our current providers EE asap.EE were on the list in Nov but have now withdrawn. The upshot is we can have superfast but no phone line. As we are not in a good reception area for mobiles this is not an acceptable option. New customers however are not being treated this way and are being offered a phone line currently on their web site deals.
If we don't use the broad band connection voucher from Openreach we will loose it and have to pay the full connection price. Alternatively we will get the penalty for ending our EE contract early in order to get a service new customers can get.
Is anyone else having this issue with EE? and what can we do about it?0 -
Your post re EE will be better answered on the broadband and internet access board.
However with regards to the hotel question - have you actually asked them for a refund ?0 -
Op. If the hotel have cancelled the booking then yes you should get a refund.
Ask them to see what they say.0 -

I would suspect, if they cancelled not you then the refund should be honoured.
So ask for the refund. How did you pay?If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1 -
