My employer is planning on making me 'furloughed' but seem to be struggling to do so...

Hi,
I'm in a bit of a situation here, our company has really been struggling for the last 3 months as we deal a lot with China. They're planning on making 3 of us 'furloughed' and will try to subsidise our wages for as long as they can but will be reliant on the 80% funding. Luckily we should be busy when all of this has blown over due to our industry so should stay employed (I hope).
Our pay day is today and I'm trying to help them find information RE furloughed employment and the 80% Governent benefit. I know the online portal isn't available yet, and possibly not until April. They planned on making us furloughed today & sending us home.
Do they need to wait for the portal to make us furloughed for the Gov benefit, or do they do it now through HMRC & will this include the Gov benefit. I know information is scarce just was hoping someone had a bit more info than me.

I have, and I know a portal is coming end of April but will be backdated to 1st March.
