How to get more Home Delivery Slots

Thinking outside the box, we desperately need more home delivery food slots. Those who are used to online shopping, have obviously grabbed slots as soon as they could, knowing how the system works, others who normally have the ability to shop are up the creek without a paddle. Now my working background tells me that the biggest obstacle will be the vehicles, you cannot turn on new or additional ones overnight, though some catering vans now not being used could have some benefit. But what about 24 hour deliveries? It would mean more drivers, but you don't need a special driving license for the small vans. I know that at the moment many of us would be prepared to have to get up at 3 am to accept a delivery, it's not as if we have to get up for work, or are pensioners (not those in their own). I don't know how to get the idea how there, but know the mods watch these boards, and Martin and/or team will know how!

Don't worry, you don't need to. The idea is already out there but the logistics need to be worked through.1

The supermarkets know the age etc of their customers.
Chuck everybody off the slots who's not vulnerable .
Make the perfectly able bodied click and collect from store .
Loads of delivery slots then availableEx forum ambassador

Age is not the only factor affecting vulnerability. Many people have health conditions that make them vulnerable or even extremely vulnerable. Supermarkets do not have this information.Browntoa said:The supermarkets know the age etc of their customers.

If the supermarkets extend the delivery schedule beyond 3 weeks and allowed bookings 6-7 weeks out a lot of people would be less anxious about running out. Simplification and enforced (sensible) substitution would help. My nearest supermarket is 6 miles away and I've been there more times in the last week than the last 12 weeks. All I want is bread flour and loose tea, but last time I went before the panic buying they were low, I didn't want to be "that" person who took the last and now I must say I'm embarrassed to say I wish I had taken them.0

I'm perfectly able bodied but on immunosuppressants to control an autoimmune disease and have been instructed to remain in my house for 12 weeks. The supermarkets do not know this. Here I go again on my own....1 -
I booked a delivery slot last week - the first available was for mid April ( always had 4 weeks showing but now only 3 for some reason) and there were no earlier 'click and collect' either. I keep looking at the website each day to see if any other slots have been made available, but nothing as yet. I am disabled so OH does the shopping but he is, technically, more vulnerable than me. No chance of staying at home if we can't get supplies delivered. It's not difficult!

I've heard that Morrisons are going to start delivering boxes of basic essentials with next day delivery. You don't get to choose exactly what's in the box - just a choice of vegetarian or non-vegetarian, it'll be £35 a box. But their online delivery website appears to be under pressure at the moment.......

That is certainly a good idea. I think also we could dispense with timeslots, and reorganize things to work more on optimal routes, eg we deliver standard boxes to x estates on Monday, y estate Tuesday etc. There would need to be some safeguards\process for truely urgent deliveries of food, but also a recognition that missing one meal won't harm most of usp00hsticks said:I've heard that Morrisons are going to start delivering boxes of basic essentials with next day delivery.
