Successful claim

Options
More than a year ago I signed up with Gladstone Brooks and all I kept getting was that accounts that they were searching were closed as there was nothing to Claim. I had a stroke last April and must of had a phone conversation with a company called Canada Square Operations. Something came but I didn’t understand it so binned it so I’m sure that I didn’t sign and return anything.  I’ve though nothing of either company since as GBrookes sent me something to provide more information  but I didn’t bother as I assumed that it would be like all of the others and nothing to claim. Two weeks ago CSquare sent me a letter saying that my complaint had been successful and they wanted my marriage certificate, which I have now sent (as fully recovered from my stroke) and they have said that I will receive a cheque in 20 days for the amount due. I’ve had an email today from GBrookes saying that they are now transferring funds and how I pay their commission. It seems that both are claiming the same but different amounts, GBrookes is £5500 more but they want nearly £7000 commission. Help I’m in a real panic now in case I’m in trouble!

You'll need to pay Gladstone once you receive the funds from CS.

It may be that the larger sum is before tax or any offset.  Their commission will be payable on the gross amount.
  • What if I receive the funds from Gladstone first? Then all is good I just don't accept the cheque from CS?

You don't receive funds from Gladstone.  They're just a claims company and will want their cut from you.

The funds come directly from the lender - ie CS in this case. If you reject their payment, you will have nothing, but will still need to pay Gladstone.
  • Ah that's great thank you! That's my mind at rest.
