Flybe collapse - foreign credit card

I bought flights for myself and my children for Easter to visit my parents in the UK (I am a British Citizen living abroad).  With the collapse of Flybe we lost our flights.  As I used a french credit card to pay for the flights I cannot apply under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.  My french bank has refused my request for a refund under "services paid for but not received" which I understand is similar to section 75.  What can I do?

  • On what basis did they refuse?

the problem in answering your query is that I guess most of us won't know French consumer law
  • because Flybe have already been paid so they cannot stop the payment.  They have not considered the legal guarantees with a credit payment (there is no travel insurance included on the card as it is a basic card rather than a gold style card).  I was wondering if there is any path I could try on the UK side.

I think this will be a matter on French consumer protection laws that you will have to research and investigate further.  I doubt many on MSE would have that knowledge.
  • Ok thanks.  I had hoped there could be another avenue to explore on the UK side (as a UK business). I have apealed my bank's decision on the french side and am waiting a response. I need to recover the cost of the flights in order to rebook and avoid further disappointment.

Is the card a VISA or Mastercard?
Don't they have rules as how to treat transactions like this?
