Short hours (Coronavirus)

Hi
My daughter has had her hours cut from 40hrs to 20hrs a week. She has contacted her mortgage provider and had a 3 month mortgage holiday agreed.
Unfortunately she is still over £800 a month short of her usual income. She us a single parent with one dependent son.
Initially she thought that some of the shortfall would be met by the governments measures announced on Friday (80% of wages paid through a grant). However she has discovered that this is only for people who have been completely laid off, as the employee is not allowed to do any work for their employer if they have been 'furlonged'.
She has been told that she needs to work 9am -1pm each day, so is also ineligible for the other measures for people who have lost full days work.
Has anyone got any advice?
Thank you

Is she already claiming universal credit? If so she will find an increase in her entitlement though not likely to be the full amount to bridge the gap.
  • Thanks for your reply. She isnt claiming UC and is having difficulty contacting them as she had been cut off a couple of times after hanging on for 2 hrs plus. Fingers cross she will get through when she tries again tomorrow.

Claims for Universal Credit are made online. If her monthly income is £800 she will be entitled to UC of about £450/month.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
