hi, does anyone know if students still have to pay rent for their houses even if they are not living in them because they have returned home due to the Uni shutdown because of Coronavirus ?

Yes they probably will, especially if it's private rentals. After all it's their choice to leave the areas they are in to go home earlier then they would've normally have done.0

Hello, I work 2 evenings a week as a waitress, which I'm apparently going to get the 80% help and one full day at a different job, again possibly will get help with wage. But the big worry I'm having is I opened a shop 3weeks ago with my sister. We paid our month deposit, month rent ect and due to pay a month at the end of this month for April which we can. Our worry is, we are not trading as of yesterday to pay Mays rent. Following government guidelines and rightly so. Our landlord owns the property, we have asked if anything can be done to help but he said its his income, which I get and must be a worry for him too. Is there any way we can get help. We don't pay business rates in the property but still, my 3 shifts of 80% will help with bills etc at home and my family so is going to be a massive no no to stretch to shop rent. The shop took enough money to pay the rent but hadn't even had the chance for a wage or anything etc.0

You might be eligible for a cash grant. I don't know if your shop is in the hospitality, leisure or tourism sectors, but even if not, there are grants for businesses occupying property in England that benefit from small business rate relief or rural rate relief. Look at the Government's COVID-19 support for businesses, which also covers business interruption loans and other help. I do wonder though why you embarked on this and entered into rental obligations as recently as March, or did the process start a while ago?0
