Are employers obligated to retain workers if they are eligible for the Work Retention Scheme?

Hello
My employer has put me on my redundancy notice (1 week), due to Covid-19. Do they have to keep me on and furlough me if they can claim my wages through the Work Retention Scheme, or are they within their rights to lay me off?
My contract is a fixed term contract taken on a trip-by-trip basis on an oil rig.

It is for employers to decide whether to use the coronavirus job retention scheme. They are not obliged to do so.1
