Social distancing in shops mainly supermarkets.

After seeing the people on TV and our local Supermarkets unable to Social Distance in these places surely they need to limit the incoming customers ? Pass out numbers to those waiting outside so they can wait in their car or at a safe distance instead of the long queues with no distance between people we have all seen outside.

Easy calculation is free surface area within  (not total shop floor area - counters - units etc ) divided by 4 , this would allow a 2 metre recommended distance.

Then the shop know how many people should be allowed in then operate a --- 1 out 1 one in—.

Also surely only one member of the family needs to shop not the whole family as I have seen.

Also NHS and other essential people --- the nearest supermarket to the Hospital should be open to them only at 1hr before and 1 hr after shift change times not just early morning makes far more sense or they/supermarkets need to dedicate a couple of staff to pick a pack shopping for them for collection or delivery. Give these front line people the respect they deserve.

Even if you operated your system I fear that social distancing would not be maintained round the toilet roll shelf.

That's exactly the system they have in Italy right now and it'll come here at some point because people simply can't control themselves. One of my friends lives in Italy and at her local supermarket, only a certain number of people are allowed in at any one time. Anyone else takes a number and waits to be called. Outside, everyone must keep at least 2 metres apart. As they're on strict lockdown, there are police patrolling the streets who'll intervene if anyone's breaking the rules.
