Accepted Amex. Can you change card type?

I was approved with a decent limit for a new American Express Card but don’t think I’ll get anywhere near the spending limits to justify the annual fee. I’ve tried calling today to be on hold for 10 minutes to no answer.

Is it possible to change the card type or is that a new application needed?

You can change, as long as you meet the criteria

I recently got a new account and I wanted to change what card i , but they said it had to be a change within the same family group of cards (Membership rewards, Avios or cashback) otherwise it would result in a new application.

    Depends on the card type.

    What did you apply for?

Yes you can downgrade to the blue card - but I believe you have to have had the card for a certain period before you can change it.

    Thanks for the posts guys.

called them today. They at the moment could only offer to cancel the card and apply again in 3 months. Just gonna take the hit for now see how the card goes.

hopefully before the years over I can get a better one being a customer with them

Exercise your right to cancel it within the 14 day cooling off period rather than just outright "cancelling" or "closing" it.
Or just stick with it and see how you get on.

By the way guys... How do you apply for Amex CC? Don't they have an online application? I decided to apply and the only thing I was able to do with the website was to open a pdf file with application form that needs to be printed out and sent to them. At least that's what it looks like. There were no other instructions.

Its an electronic application with a normally instant decision. At least it was when I applied for the 2 Amex's I have in the last 2 years. You click the Apply Now button the card you want then up pops a screen  with PDF documents down the right hand side and you click the green 'Get Started' button at the bottom.
