Travel insurance running out

we we are currently in the USA and are shortly due to return to the UK however the flights back are uncertain and our travel insurance runs out a few days after we are due to return. Any idea where we stand if we can’t get a flight out before this happens, the main worry is the health insurance given the current problems. We have asked the insurance company but have yet to get an answer.
