Scouts - Fundraising for Trip to Switzerland, Feb 2008

Options
Hello,

Does anyone have any advise to help me fund raise for my trip to Switzerland in February. I need to raise around £400.

We have a few events planned, which should bring in some income. But I have also heard there are other ways online to make some money. Maybe not donations or fund raising but other quick ways?

I currently do Daily Clicks, but don't earn too much with those. Only around £10 a month. Which is better than nothing.

But if anyone has any suggestions or ideas please let me know!

Thank you so much

  • Other than the daily clicks, I can't think of much.

However, a couple of days bag-packing over Christmas should get you more than enough! Or do something more fun.

Are you fundraising as a group or individually? Scouts or Explorers?

  • We are doing group fundraising. Both Scouts and Explorers. But due the the number of us each event we only raise a little bit for each of us.

So I need to look into doing some individual fundraising. Have you any ideas?

    Thanks
  • What do you already have planned?

You might find it easier to work with a small group than trying to fundraise on your own - it will mean having to do more to raise the same amount of money, but will be easier in the long run.

Sponsored activities (run, cycle, swimming - whatever takes your fancy)?
    Bake sale?
Some local papers/radio stations will donate to things like this, but it would probably have to be done as a group request - I can't imagine any fund handing over money to an individual for a trip!

As ventures (making myself sound old now!), we ran annual dinner-dances to raise money for the section, as well as car parking and marshalling at local shows - lots of organisers will make a donation to a group who are willing to do this kind of thing. Not sure what the rules are about Scouts/Explorers doing things like this are - would want plenty of leaders around I think, and preferably work with the older ones :)

Also, have a dig around on www.scouts.org.uk, there's lots of articles there about fund-raisers that other groups have done already.

(Hate to do the boring bit - but if your a young person fundraising on your own, be careful who you approach, don't go knocking on doors etc etc - I'm sure you've heard it all before!!)

the groups that help pack shopping at the checkouts in the big stores tend to raise a lot of money or at least a nice amount!

try that one evening by calling the store and taking the whole scout group up with you and with small buckets!!

    good luck
:T Thanks to all lovely MSE'rs - you are great friends :T
