Can I get a refund from Expedia?

I booked to go to Malta 21 May for a family wedding. I booked through Expedia for myself and my elder sons ticket. A few weeks after my younger son could come with us after all so I booked him on the same flight, directly through Air Malta. Air Malta flights have been cancelled and the airline is offering refunds no questions asked. Expedia On the other hand are saying Airline credit which is only payable to each named customer and Air Malta will charge a £49 reissue fee when using this credit! How can they do this? Can I argue it as I know the airline are giving no quibble refunds? It’s just Expedia not wanting to give a refund? I paid on a debit card which I’m completely regretting now. I am insured and that would cover it but I’d rather not claim on my insurance. Thanks in advance

You need to look at Expedia's terms and conditions, people think it is easy to book with third party agents, and it may be until things go wrong. Expedia works on the basis there is no human involvement in the transaction, once there is, they have to charge for it. There may be a chargeback claim even though you used a debit rather than a credit card but you would have to show a breach of contract and if Expedia's terms say they can impose fees in this situation, there is no breach of contract anyway
