Retention vs SSP

Hi - We have a dilemma, sorry if it sounds pertinent and selfish - I don't mean to sound like this but we are just worried for immediate and long term future.
Hubby and I are both key workers.
My hubby earns about 3k a month (with the overtime) as a livestock driver. He is also classed as a at risk group - asthma. Apparently the NHS will be contacting the at risk groups to recommend self isolation for 12 weeks. If he self isolates (which he doesn't want to do) he will only get ssp for the recommended 12 weeks.
If the company was able to put him on retention then he should be able to get 80% of his basic rate.
Two weeks isolation for us on ssp is manageable but 12 weeks sitting on bums and not able to help colleagues is going to be hard to recover from.
It seems that as the Government try to sort one issue out another issue is put out.
Any advice?

The governments advice to self-isolate is simply that, advice. Your husband will need to make the decision himself. He needs to speak to his employer, if they wont help then I don't think he has a lot of choice if he wants to protect himself and the others around him.0

For the first time in my life it looks as though I will have to claim SSP due to Covid 19 isolation
My question is as a Teaching assistant on a salary paid pro-rata in twelve equal payments will I only get paid £94 per week SSP through the Easter holiday period or will I revert to full pay?0 -
You need your own thread really but I'd argue you'd be on the 80% retention if your not needed in the school.wellspurs said:For the first time in my life it looks as though I will have to claim SSP due to Covid 19 isolation
