Loganair flight changes

Hello,

I have booked flights from Aberdeen-Sumburgh for 1 May, returning on 3 May.  I booked the flights so I could get up for Shetland Folk Festival, but since the Covid-19 situation exploded, the festival has been cancelled.  Since then, Loganair have changed the flight times but have said that if they are not suitable, I can change flights to 'any future flight date, without incurring a change fee', BUT I would have to pay an additional fee if the flights I choose are more expensive.  Alternatively, I can hold the booking up to 31 December 2020.

Am I entitled to fight for my money back?  The alternative fights that they have offered are not suitable, and quite honestly I have no other reason to go to Shetland.

The flights that I bought were 'Fly', meaning that they are not usually changeable or refundable.  But seeing as they have offered unsuitable flights, am I am to fight for a full refund?

I did buy them on a credit card too.

Thanks in advance.

Joe Hibbs

how large was the time change with the reschedule?
their conditions of carriage state "If after you buy your ticket we make a significant change to the scheduled departure or arrival time of your flight; you find this change unacceptable; and we or our authorised agents cannot book you on another flight which you are prepared to accept; we will give you an involuntary fare refund."

Unfortunately there does not appear to be a definition of "significant"...some airlines allow refunds with a 2 hour+ change, for others it is 12 hours+

Hi Caz - thanks for your reply, it's much appreciated.

Going out, the departure time was from 18:00 to 15:00, and returning the change was from 19:40 to 16:35.

I would not focus on the cancelled event...you would need to focus on 3 hour time change in each direction being "significant"
this MSE article has definitions from 5 airlines...2 of which would class the change as 'significant' and 3 that don't

In the circumstances, 3 hours is not a huge change, I think you are on shaky ground for a refund. Unless it is classed as a breach of contract, there will be no claim against the credit card either. I would be tempted to wait, I suspect the flights may be cancelled altogether in which case you can insist on a refund
