After the initial 6 month AST, is the landlord able to increase the rent?

I went to view a nice room last week and the landlord has dropped the prices considerably since then, making this a very attractive offer. The only worry I have is that after the 6 months is up is there anything stopping them from raising the price? At that point I would assume it would go as a monthly rolling contract.
I had thought I had read somewhere that they cannot raise prices for a year, but the information out there is ridiculously complex and contradictory.
I am just wondering if it is worth moving somewhere for 6 months with the idea that prices may be increased to a level I don't like and then have to move again. They have basically told me that they will look at the prices again after 6 months.

He can ASK you to agree to an increase (you can AsK to reduce the rent) but Landlord may not use the formal s13 form/process to try to increase rent (even then there's an appeal process if you disagree). See - assuming England....

If it's a 6 month fixed term, the rent is fixed for 6 months. After that, a new fixed term at any rent can be renegotiated. Or go periodic at the same rent -
if the subsequent periodic tenancy is contractual, the LL can only use S13 to increase the rent after a year.
if the subsequent periodic tenancy is statutory, the LL can use S13 to increase the rent immediately
