I have already applied to Tesco, Morrisons and Aldis by going in. They did advise me they have hundreds of names already - Aldis said they may give me a call back but it did not seem very positive. I will get ready now and try my nearest Asda. I don't want to seem as though I am not trying as I am - desperately - but of course there are countless numbers of people in the same position.
I’m really sorry that you find yourself in the state that you do, but a high-interest loan is going to make things worse. Please, keep trying.

You tried your nearest Sainsburys, you tried Lidl ?
Theres some links in here for the various retailers

A payday loan isn't what you need, it will make things worse. It would help if you could reduce your spending now.

HettieJ, please don't be too proud to ask for help.
Are you on Facebook ? There are loads of local support groups being set up there to help those like yourself who are struggling through this. You can use this website to find one local to you https://covidmutualaid.org/
They may not be able to help you find a job (it sounds like you're already doing all you can there) but they would hopefully be able to ensure that you don't go hungry or without other essentials.

  • I have no idea why people think it is easy to get a short term/payday loan out as the process is now far stricter after compo had to be paid out.
From real experience and even with a proven past of repaying these loans - now on application you either have to supply bank statements or agree to open banking during which details will be scrutinised to see an 'active employer and income proven' don't even think about the potential for fraud coz you'll only hurt yourself - you need to go towards the government without an employer not a pdl.

Thank you all for your replies, I really appreciate it! I am in Scotland, not too far from Glasgow, I will try to find a support group on Facebook.

I already got approved for a loan, however the interest rates are even higher as they don't ask for a guarantor 😣

Iceland have told me to apply online as usual, I did call Sainsburys but they said they are not currently looking. I am keeping an eye out online and applying for any jobs that are posted as normal there.

Don't forget to make an online application for Universal Credit.  You can ask for an advance on your first payment....
I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

    I love my job
