Pub opens as shop for vulnerable, elderly, and key workers

The Eccleston Arms in St. Helens has opened today as a shop. They are using catering sized rice, pasta, etc split down to sell to the elderly, vulnerable, and key workers. They have requested that people send carers if they are in an at risk group, and to bring proof. There are certain hours for collection, but I believe that NHS and care workers can collet at any time. Delivery is being made available where possible, for those who cannot ask someone to collect for them.
I think that this is a great way forward. It helps those who need it most, and it keeps staff in a job. I haven't been, although I might go next week if I need to - I care for my severely disabled son and for my elderly mum. I understand that they are also offering their menu as a takeaway, so I might avoid cooking one evening
The owner also has another pub in Southport, and they are doing the same thing.

That’s good, I presume they aren’t making a profit?0

I would expect them to be covering their operating costs, but not an enormous profit.onwards&upwards said:That’s good, I presume they aren’t making a profit?
Hopefully it will help them to keep staff employed and premises open until this crisis ends.4 -
No, apparently they are selling for cost price. They have stated that if they do make any profits, they will be donated to a local charity, The Steve Prescott Foundation. Delivery is free within a reasonable area for those who cannot go out. The hotel in Southport is The Bold Hotel, in case it helps anyone in that area.

Laudible. How are they ensuring that the place is truly made accessible to those who really need it, and isn't 'gatecrashed' by the mobs.0

If you read the first post it says they are asking for proof......

RAOK: my sister found a pansy plant on her doorstep this morning, with a card wishing her a happy mother's day. She's not a mother and hasn't been able to work out where it came from but she was very touched.Signature removed for peace of mind5

Volunteers are delivering (maintaining a safe distance, etc). I believe that Johnny Vegas, who is from St. Helens, is out today doing deliveries.

That made my day. (Not a mum or indeed female) but that some thoughtful act of anonymous kindness was made even if it was mistakenly.Savvy_Sue said:RAOK: my sister found a pansy plant on her doorstep this morning, with a card wishing her a happy mother's day.
