Self employed...sort of!

My husband and I are in a possibly unique position. We are winding up our Ltd company at the end of March as his contract is ending. The plan was then to form a self employed partnership in the new financial year, as we were hoping he would still pick up bits of work, and I would still be able to earn from my part time efforts. It looks like our work will dry up though, and I think I may be asked to self isolate for 12 weeks.
Are we entitled to anything at all? I’m thinking we might both be able to claim contribution based ESA? Does that sound about right. It’s not a huge amount, but it would make all the difference. We couldn’t claim universal credit as we have savings.

salary yourself from the ltd. The .gov will pay 80% of salary (unless i have misread.)
SE partnership you will get nothing if you have over 16k savings
i think you need to be sick to get esa1 -
Oh, that’s not good. Didn’t really want to keep the Ltd company going next year. Do you not get esa if you have been advised to self isolate for 12 weeks?0

Why have you been advised to self isolate?0

depends how you were previously paid by your LTD. (you may need to see your accountant)
ESA think 12 weeks was for vulnerable people?0 -
I think 12 week self isolation is recommended for anyone entitled to the nhs flu jab, which I am.0

Should be good then0

I don't think so. You are only treated as sick if ill or self isolating. I think 12 week periods are described as social distancing and the term is not interchangeable with self isolation.Duggo said:Oh, that’s not good. Have a look at whether you may be entitled to Universal Credit. You will be excluded if you have savings over £16,000.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1 -
Ok, so there really isn’t much help for self employed with savings then.0

At moment...not much help. if you are in retail/hospitality etc and you have pay/get rates relief you may get a grant.
