Chargeback

Have a hotel booked in Jersey (Channel Islands) between16th April and 20th April.  Foolishly booked ‘non-refundable’ as wasn’t planning to cancel.  Both UK and Jersey governments have effectively banned non-essential travel and if I did go then I’d have to go into self isolation for 14 days on arrival.

Hotel won’t refund me if I cancel - which I kind of understand but still think they’re being peevish - does anyone think I could claim under chargeback?  It’s pretty obvious that I can’t actually go....

No you cannot. The hotel is there to he used and none of this is their fault. Claim on your insurance. Any S75 claim would be rejected.

I don't think so - Although your bank may give you back the money when you first initiate the chargeback they then go to the hotel to claim it back, and when the hotel refuse, as they're likely to do,  the bank wil ltake the money away from you again. I suspect the bank would also tell you to take it up with your travel insurance. It might be worth hanging on to see if the hotel itself closes down before you are due to travel, as if it's them that cancel rather than you ,  they should refund oyu.
