O/S Daily Saturday 21 March 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Light cold and frosty start to the day.
DH watching catchup tv, DS1 still in his pit, I'm bathed, dressed and enjoying my cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was chicken and ham pie, chips, peas and gravy for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and salad. Not sure what we'll be having for dinner tonight, I have food in so will need to chose.
I'm working this morning and lots has happened since I was there this week, so we'll see - much more protective environment is what I've been told. We'll see.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.It's fine and dry again here, cold of course.Another day in our quiet lives, there's nothing planned. Having said that there are always little jobs to do, and we are still getting used to the new regime.I hope everyone is allright anyway, I'll probably pop back later.Take care folks13

Morning
Chilli this morning hope it become another sunny day. Shopping due at 8 and of course they have removed most of it its hardly worth them coming Usual culprits missing bread, flour, butter, all fruit and veg, potatoes, yoghurt, tomato ketchup, caster sugar, oxo cubes, bacon and all cheese ....oh and no wine at allI figured everybody hates liver and I was right so 2 packs on its way. They also don't like peppered mackerel so 1 pack in the bag and that's about it. Liver for dinner then. Its definitely going to mean some creative use of what's in the freezer now thank god for that. There is no way I can get out to trawl the shops so its real now. Grass salad anyone? The money I haven't spent I might put towards a delivery from a local restaurant to try and support them.
Plans for today include a chat with my age uk lady and a bit more decluttering. Success yesterday was cleaning the lounge windows...they were truly manky and I have a whole new sparkly view out now! Todays pick of the jobs is to do a full freezer list again so that I can see exactly how dire this could get. I suspect theres plenty there just not in the right combinations but the list will reassure a bit.
Hope everyone is coping OK and has as good a day as possible

Good morning folks. Thanks for starting us off NMLC - I hope you're safe at work.I'm not sure of what today will bring apart from making a start on cleaning the dining room. All the laminate is back down 🎉 with only some beading to be finished off on Monday. On Tuesday the plasterer will do a little more work and then it's all done. The place is thick with brick and wood dust. It'll be a case of rubber gloves and elbow grease.I really hope that everyone is safe and well at this even stranger time. My DM's generation have been through similar days, for Boomers it's very odd and a little scary.Happy Saturday to all.12

Good morning, a bright sunny morning so I have towels nearing readiness to go on the line.
OH about to leave to do the weekly shop, no idea what t*sco is likely to have. He's got up in grumpy fashion so if he can't get what he wants, he will be mr extra grump. 5 minutes later, he's gone but at least made a joke before he left about coming back with a tin of pilchards and a tin of chickpeas, I asked him to leave the pilchards but yes please to chickpeas. I can see a time when I will say ok to wretched pilchards though. Our son has never experienced shortages, just occasional times when his first choice has not been available so interesting times ahead. We don't stockpile but we do keep enough in the freezers, fridge and cupboards to keep going, should be ok for a few weeks and I am not mad about meat so all the more for them.
I see that pubs, clubs and restaurants have had to close. This will have no effect on us but I'm really sorry for those who work in those jobs.
Time for a bout of dedicated procrastination, later I'm hoping to get outside for a garden tidy.
Hope everyone has a good or at least not bad day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back15 -
Morning all! Not sunny yet but I think it'll poke through in a bit...Heating has just come on so I'll be toasty again in a bit...I think htere's something wrong with me. I'll go to bed and put the hot blanket on, it's lovely, I switch it off, go to sleep. Wake up two hours later boiling Chuck off covers. Wake up thirty minutes later, freezing....I've got the smallest tog you can get....And I would blame hormones or lack of them, but the OH is the same! Had a milk delivery this morning. I used to have it when I lived where i lived before, the milkman was the nicest guy ever, really friendly, maybe because he never really saw anyone working nights all the time
I went luxurious and got a bottle of jersey milk...nom.
My water butt is standing on a stand [ used every brick that wasn't doing a job in the garden, and a bit of slate to level] and even though it's a grand total of about 30 bricks [ didn't realise there were so many!] I feel very pleased with myself that I managed to move them all. And also managed to saw [very badly, I should shoot myself] three blocks of wood which are now grab adhesived to the garage ready for some guttering to be stuck on.OHs sister is coming to visit OHs mum this weekend, unfortunately, we've had to decline going to see them, since children are germ buckets at the best of times....plus we don't know if what we have is the thing or not, so I'd rather not take chances as his dad has underlying health wotsits....Nelski, just saw a neat trick on FB...Shop selling hand sanitiser but could equally apply to anything...1 hand sanitiser = 95p...2 hand sanitiser - £95. Perhaps SMs could adopt the same pricing structure...Gers, good to hear your floors are back down...Hope everyone is doing well...Spot on Saturday....

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another bright but cold start here. Long range forecast shows no rain for at least 2 weeks - I'm not putting a bet on it!
Day 6 of isolation and I'm feeling a bit morose this morning and can't shake it off. But I know I shall be far from alone feeling like this. As things are I may as well be isolated anyway as there's nothing to go out for is there? No restaurants, cafes, bars, etc and nothing but empty shelves in the sm's.. But the alternative is worse!!
Old habits die hard and I ended up doing the whole Friday Tidy yesterday after all! But I have promised myself from Monday I will start the one room a day routine and be a bit more thorough about it!! I have been trying to get through all the silly bits and pieces and leftovers in the big freezer this week and want to give that a good sort out this morning and see if I unearth any more hidden away before I start using the unopened packs of stuff and hm meals.
Have as good a day as you can folks under the circumstances and a big ((GROUP HUG)) xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Morning everyone
The nursery I work at closed yesterday...who knows how long for? It was a very strange day. I also decided not to go to my weekend hotel job as I have my mam and dad and baby grand daughter to think about and I can't risk bringing any germs home to them. I also have asthma, though mild.
So first day of having nothing to do and very little contact with anyone. It's a very weird feeling!
Will pop to supermarket this morning for mams magazine and perhaps some fresh veg...but will be in and out and keep my distance from others.
Hope everyone has a good day

Morning all.
It is going to be interesting to see what we find to talk about during our incarceration. A report of household tasks completed? A record of adventurous exploits in the garden? The wild ramblings of our minds?
We will be relying on people like nmlc and those still at work to bring us news of the outside world.
Nelski, viewing the empty shelves in shops I do wonder if the entire country has suddenly become a nation of bakers and make-it-from-scratch-ers. Not a grain of flour, yeast, sugar, or an ounce of fat to be found. I think some families are in for some interesting, experimental meals.
Gers, I see that you are expecting a plasterer to come and finish the work. I was wondering if workmen will still be able to visit people's homes. I only ask because I'm expecting some curtains to be delivered and installed, and I'm so tired of breathing on the windows before getting undressed.
Yes, we oldies have been here before, but at least this time round we are not huddled in shelters waiting for the bombs to fall.
AOD, I know what you mean about the younger generation experiencing for the first time not being able to have exactly what they want the second they want it. I'm sure they will survive. Hopefully stronger and wiser.

Im baking today (im the brain DH is the hands) we managed to get eggs flour and butter - very lucky as it for my mother for Mothering Sunday xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.14 -
Morning all
Bright sunny day here I have a wash on the go and will hang it out for a while, yesterdays washing dried on the line with just a quick turn in the td.
OH is going to attempt to go shopping for his dad today, I am not sure what if anything he will be able to get but he will try, we need some eggs so have asked him to have a look just in case.
The log man is coming this morning so at least we will have heat if we need it. We need to have a good clean through today as well.
Chicken curry for dinner with bombay potatoes which OH will cook.
Its sad about the pubs restaurants etc closing I hope they manage to survive, our village pub is doing takeaway food and beer so will have to support them.
Nels no winestay strong my lovely !!
Stay safe everyone xx13
