This is one of the problems with WTC. I can see nothing in the press releases that lets you off the WTC requirement to work a certain number of hours. UC is different, but there are a host of other conditions to meet.
  • I have a 16 hour contract but average 25 hours or so. I've just been furloughed am I getting paid for 80% of my contract or average, that's a big difference in pay for me.

Your employer has to apply for the scheme and explain to you that you are being put in it. Ask your question to them then.

I work 16 hours a week and receive working tax credit.  If I am furloughed, will the WTC stop or continue as if I'm still working enough hours?
There are anecdotal reports that HMRC are relaxing the rules but I haven't found anything official.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • So I am a key worker however my child’s nursery says unless it gets a direct order to remain open it will close tomorrow. My public sector employer has stated that if I have to take time off my job as a key worker to look after my children it will be classed as unauthorised absence and will be unpaid. At first read of the article I would not be entitled to 80% of my wages from the Government as I’m not being laid off. Any ideas anyone?
would also like a response to this as in a similar position

As the government kept schools open to look after key workers' children, I hope they will do something for pre-school childcare, as the situation appears to be a mess at present. There seems to be no help apart from applying for universal credit.
  • Can your employer put you on furlough then change your shift allowance from March 31st. Would the government pay the employer 80%of the wage you earned for the last 2years or the new rate which is around £600per month less!

I am in a situation where i am a carer (who should still go to work) but I have asthma and the government strongly advise to self isolate. I am due back towork tomorrow (today is the last day of my annual leave) and i need to tell my manager im not going to be able to come back to work for health reasons and government advice. it is not a job i can do from home either, obviously. where do i stand in terms of being able to claim this furlough 80% wages grant or can i only get SSP (my private company don't pay sick pay) which won't cover bills and mortgage, etc. Please help rgently as Im going out of my mind and my stress and anxiety isn't helping my asthma either.

I need help/advice on where I stand with this scheme.  I was due to start a new position on 30th March but due to the current situation, this has been postponed for several weeks.
The office has been closed and staff are all working from home, therefore there are no facilities to train me which is why it has been delayed. This is a decision I fully understand.
I signed my contract stating start date is 30th March.
It is a job within the insurance industry and I have been assured the role is still there for me, I just cannot start yet.

Where does this leave me with the government's plan to pay 80% of wages? I have had a couple of people tell me I should be included in this plan but I am not 100% sure as I have not officially started.
I do not want to approach my new employer about this until I have more guidance.
