Help for the Self Employed

Can people shed some light on what help is available for my Dad. He is a sole trader/self employed Builder who employs an apprentice.
If and when the work dries up for him, we need to know what financial help is available. He has a works van that needs to be paid for as well as the regular house bills.
The Government have come forward and said that they will pay the salaries of employees, but nothing said about the sole traders and self employed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
