Netflix cutting streaming quality

According to the latest news Netflix are planning on reducing the bitrate of their streaming service in Europe for (at least) the next 30 days in order to reduce data consumption. One thing they haven't stated is whether they plan on giving it's customers a refund due to the obvious reduction in picture quality that will result, somehow I very much doubt it.

And despite BT saying there is plenty of room in the system to handle the increase in data traffic.0

If you read the quality sources, you will find that this is because the EU requested it as some countries in the EU do have capacity issues (not all buy some). However, the UK does not. The UK Government did not ask for this. The UK ISPs did not ask for this. So, there was no reason for this to be applied to the UK. The content providers have the ability to adjust per country but decided to apply it to the EU & UK across the board.
Amazon is still showing HDR in the UK (I just checked). However, that could just be a timing issue. Or it could be that they are not including the UK.

It was the other day on I think the Guardian. The main headline was about Amazon doing this but in the article, Netflix and Youtube channel mentioned and said they expect BBC IPlayer to also follow.

There is no reason at all for iPlayer to do this because it is only available in the UK anyway.donnac2558 said:Chino said:

I'm afraid "reason" has gone out of the window at the current time.Takmon said:

Who's worrying. Of course it pales into insignificance in comparison but this is an MSE forum and it's is precisely the place to be discussing issues such as this or do you you suggest we close all discussion down until the pandemic is over. 🙄mac.d said:
Yes, worrying about a slight reduction in the video quality of a netflix stream in the middle of a global pandemic is definitely an example of reason going out the window.neilmcl said:I'm afraid "reason" has gone out of the window at the current time.1 -
Nobody is "worrying" but just because there is a global pandemic doesn't mean other issues can't be discussed and the pandemic shouldn't be used to justify actions that don't need to be taken. I assume you must be sitting at home and only thinking and talking about the pandemic and ignoring every other single issue.mac.d said:
