PCN from a car park where registration number has to be entered

I've just received a PCN for the company that manage the car park where I go to the gym. It's a vehicle registration system and gym goers have machines inside the gym that dispense tickets free of charge for a 3 hour stay. They've snapped me on 29th Feb which was a Saturday. The first day I used the gym after joining. I'm certain I did the ticket machine on my way out as the machines are right outside the mens changing room door by the lift.
I've searched and searched and can only find tickets from 19th & 26th of Feb, I've been a bit complacent with them. As the system requires entry of a registration number, can I not ask them to double check their records for that day to see if I entered my reg at all or even a very close match where I may have mistyped? I can't believe I didn't do it. The membership staff drill the use of the machines into you and given where they are, you literally can't forget to do it on your way out.
Has anyone else asked for that kind of check to be done? Successfully or otherwise?

Many judges regard this type of BOC claim as a trifle read this

Personally, in our present situation, I would ignore but others, more risk averse than I am, think otherwise. Read this and decide,
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6116701/let-us-ignore-all-pcns#latestNine times out of ten these tickets are scams, so consider complaining to your MP, it can cause the scammer extra costs and work, and has been known to get the charge cancelled.
Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.
Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies.

I don't agree with ignoring a PCN.
My advice is to edit your post to remove information about who did what. Only ever refer to The Driver and The Keeper, who are two different people.
I don't know how the system works at this gym, but most places require you to enter a VRM on arrival, not on leaving. It is possible therefore that a scamera clocked a vehicle arriving and a PCN was generated because the VRM was not entered within the grace period allowed.
It is also possible that The Driver/An Occupant of the car did indeed enter their VRM, but the system is faulty.
I take neither The Driver or Occupant are yet familiar with the necessity of taking a photographic image of the VRM on the keypad, and the confirmed message that appears afterwards.
Anyway, what happened when you complained to the gym manager/landowner? Have you threatened to cancel your membership if the PCN isn't cancelled fifthwith?
If a cancellation is not forthcoming then appeal using the template in blue text from the first post of the NEWBIES. Send it unaltered from The Keeper.
Have you complained to your MP yet about this unregulated scam.
