Help! - Is my tv caput?

My tv has been playing up for last week. It is a 13 year old sony and is currently connected to virgin media digital box and video. When I switch tv on there is no picture (just a weird greenish colour screen) and eventually the picture appears but flashes on and off. A few days ago it would settle down after 5-10 mins, but now it is taking ages for picture to appear, and when it does, it flashes on and off. The sound is fine throughout. Have tried jiggling all the leads, taking in & out, switching digital box off and rebooting. Bought new scart leads today and replace all - made no difference. Called VIrgin, but just suggested checking leads and rebooting.
ANy ideas what the problem might be and is it fixable? Don't want to spend a fortune on call out charges if a) it's a simple fix; b) it's a really expensive fix; or c) if tv is just knackered!!
Many thanks for your help:)

Sounds like the tube is knackered, had one go just the same & it ended up being cheaper to buy a new telly than get the old one fixed.Winnings

Before you call an engineer out you can buy a 28" widescreen from Asda for less than £100

Hi Ladybump
I had a similar problem at the beginning of the winter last year and was about to get a new tv when I moved it in the room and it was fine. It was next to the radiator and when I put the heating on was when I first had the problem. So obviously it didn't like the heat. Having said that the tv blew up with a spectacular bang a few months later elsewhere in the room.
That Asda deal sounds really good. Sounds better than getting an engineer out to fix an older tv which might go wrong again soon.

Our Tv did this, shortly before dying completely!
Still, 13 years is excellent.0 -
ladybump how old is it? did you take out extra cover when you bought it? Mine went like yours within the first year & had to eventually be replaced by a more expensive model at no charge.Winnings
