Laid off/unpaid leave and entitlement to benefits

Hi. It seems likely that all at our small company will be laid off or told to take unpaid indefinite leave due to economic downturn.
Its been a long time since I signed on, but as I understand it I wont get any benefits if I resign, whereas if I am made redundant I can claim benefits until I get another job. If I am laid off, presumably I have not been made redundant, so can I claim any benefits?
also can I demand to be made redundant instead of being laid off?

After 4 weeks of being laid off you can claim redundancy. See https://www.gov.uk/lay-offs-short-timeworking0
