Downsizing my car? Advice sought

Unless you sell privately and buy privately, you will lose out. Most people change their cars because they're bored and want something different. They try to justify it to themselves by saying they'll save a few pounds a month on tax or fuel. Then they lose all that money on crystallising the depreciation when they sell their current car.

Forget any ideas of changing your car for at least the next 3 - 6 months.
We're at the start of a global pandemic, an event so rare that most people don't see one in their lifetime, we don't know how long it is going to last and what further restrictions might be needed. You've got a perfectly good, working car that will see you through this. Sit tight, keep the car, re-evaluate once this is all over.1
