Hi there, my missus and I have paid £3,000 deposit for my 40th birthday celebration cruise with Celebrity Cruises to depart in December. We are obviously worried about going and whether we will be allowed to travel at all. The cruise company are saying we are not entitled to a refund for the deposit. Where do we stand with this? They have informed us that if we pay in full we are more likely to get a refund. Obviously we are not prepared to do this, it seems like a ploy. Please help. Love your show! Much love to you and the whole team on MSE. Many thanks, Lee John.

    Welcome to the forum.

No-one knows what the situation will be like in December.
This is not a ploy and the company are correct. I suggest you pay the balance when its due as per the T&Cs you agreed to when you booked the cruise. IF, come December, the cruise doesn't go ahead, you'll be entitled to a full refund. If you cancel now, you'll lose the deposit. For extra protection, pay by credit card.

FWIW, we have a cruise booked for 6th November. I'll pay the balance when its due and hope it goes ahead because that will mean that this crisis is over. Somehow, I don't think it will be.
