Failed credit check - but have a perfect credit rating

Hey guys,

Wonder if you can help me?
So I have just recently moved to London after getting a promotion. It's my fourth week here at this new place and I wanted to buy a MiFi dongle for mobile internet. I tried to buy one from THREE and Vodafone online but I have failed their credit checks. I looked at my credit rating on Experian (the company that they advise on their sites) and my score is 999 out of 999. I've never missed a payment, I have no debt whatsoever.

Is it something to do with the new promotion or new address? I'm struggling as to why I can't pass their checks!

Possibly because you are not yet on the electoral roll?

As you have found out, your score means nothing, lenders look at your history only.
As mentioned I wonder if its down to the ER.

Check your credit files, not your credit scores

    See what appears
  • ER will not be a deal breaker. What is your credit history? Do you have loans or credit cards that are well maintained?
999 suggests very little or no credit history.

The only issue I can think of (given these products are easy to get) is if you are applying at a new address in London but all your credit is at your old address in Scotland.... but even so, the phone companies systems should be sophisticated enough to cope. I take it you did provide your current and previous addresses when applying?

Which address did you use when you applied for the dongle?  Your London address or Scottish one?  Which address is registered with your bank?
