Hi all, I've just returned from Lanzarote having to cut short my holiday because of lockdown. We were there for 2 days of a ten day holiday when this happened there was a lot of rumour regards Spain locking down but still the company I was with went ahead, it was a catch 22 for us cancel and we'd lose our money or go. My question is if anyone can help is are we entitled to any compensation I feel we've not had a holiday at all. Thank you in advance and if you think om being unrealistic I'm happy to hear your thoughts.

Was this a package holiday with someone like TUI or Jet2 - or a DIY type holiday?

I honestly doubt any compensation will be offered - we are living in a very strange world at the moment. If this was a package holiday then perhaps try contacting them in a few weeks to see if they will offer a gesture of goodwill and a future holiday discount.

At least you are home :)
  • i too went to lanzarote for 10 days flew on the 11th march, was told by hotel staff before we left that jet2 plus other holiday companies knew about this on the Monday 9th but still decided to fly people out on the monday to saturday when the lock down came into force, i agree with you michaelj65 we didnt have a holiday - we did not cut ours short as we could not afford to come home early, so had 6 days locked down in the hotel, i totally agree we need some form of compensation even if that is a discount on a future holiday - also had to laugh that we were given a £60 off voucher on the plane to be used in the next 2 months!!

You dont "need" any compo, wind your necks in.  I didnt demand any when I was stuck on Gran Canaria for an extra day last month because of the sandstorms.   As for the £60 voucher that is a standard Jet2 thing they always do.

Michaelj65 has not returned to the thread to comment further, or perhaps he did and has since reflected on the very special circumstances we are all faced with and realises that seeking compensation at this time, with these circumstances is perhaps inappropriate.   Pam1602 may also need to reflect on similar matters.
