Delay on cheque

Options
I put a claim in on the last day and after taking forever I got a response from M&S that I was going to get a cheque for £27,400 within 28 days, happy days. This morning I've just received an letter saying that the calc has been redone and that I will get £80 more but the kicker is that the cheque will come in up to another 28 days, can they do this? or are they delaying payment because of covid-19?

Thanks if anyone can give any info.

Yes they can.  And of course they're not delaying because of Covid-19.

Why would they want to pay you more than they need to?  The sooner they pay you, the less they pay.

The only reason for them to delay is if you're a very valuable customer and they want to maximise your payout.  But that's not likely and even then, they could simply send you a bonus goodwill payment.
