I had a flight to Japan booked. The first leg got cancelled. I logged onto British Airways to get my refund. However I was only offered a 1 year voucher! I really don't want that and according to law you should be able to get a full cash refund if airlines cancel your flights. I tried calling the helpline. Everytime the line cut me off. I did some googleing and found another website where they have found a workaround to get you refund on the British Airways website. Not sure if I can post the link here but I'll explain..

1. Use the Google chrome browser. Not sure of procedure on other browsers.
2. Log into British Airways and select 'Manage my trip' and select ‘Cancellation options for this booking’.
3. You are then taken to the consent form where you tick your name or the person that booked the flight. DONT continue the process yet otherwise you will only be offered a voucher. ****Instead while the consent window is still open do the following.*******

Click the ‘three dots’ in the top right corner of Chrome

Scroll down to ‘Settings’ and click – this opens a new ‘Settings’ page

Click ‘Privacy & Security’ in the left menu – this brings the ‘Privacy & Security’ section to the top

Click ‘Site Settings’ in the ‘Privacy & Security’ section

Scroll down to the ‘Permissions’ section and click ‘JavaScript’

Turn off JavaScript by toggling the ‘Allowed’ button

4. Go back the the consent window and Tick the ‘Please tick here’ box and click ‘Continue’.

5. NOW you will see the cash refund page. Before clicking to submit for your refund you need to turn on javascript again.

I hope this helps some of you get your refunds without the stress.

    Thanks for sharing,
Not worked for me though as BA offered to refund me taxes only less cancellation fee: £300 loss...

EDIT: Maybe the reason it's not working for me is that the flight is not cancelled yet ?
  • I had to register for an account to thank you for this wonderful advice. It worked perfectly for me and, after kicking me off the phone all morning, BA is refunding me £728.22 for my cancelled flight. Thank you, raf80!

If you are an executive club member try calling the Exec club instead.  I did that yesterday and was on hold for under 10 minutes (I'm "Silver" so not sure if that makes the line a bit shorter) and they immediately processed my request for a cash refund.  No questions asked.  Amount will be refunded to my credit card in 7-10 days.

    Thanks for this.

It worked a treat on six flights. Some booked as returns and some individual outward and returns. Money and Avios returned in all case.

However it currently doesnt work on a flight from Rome to Heathrow on 5th July.

For this option it doesn't offer the form but an option where you have to select of youre a passenger on this flight (and then yes and no options) but then no further option to progress passed this stage.

Not following the block java instructions does give the voucher form.

I've tried numerous devices and always the same.

Something to do with it been from Italy? I successfully got a refund on flights on the 2nd so possibly not date?

    Any help appreciated

Were your other flights not to Europe? I just tried this for my cancelled flights to Pisa in May and it didn't work for me either

As above - the flight which didn't work was from Rome to Heathrow.

All the successful flights were European ones too - but non Italian ones.

Maybe coincidence that yours involves travel (albeit to rather than from) Italy too?

But none of flights that I was successful on were cancelled at the time of me cancelling.

And nor is it clear to me that this Rome to Heathrow flight is cancelled yet either.

Things have moved on from this.

They've temporarily merged the Exec Club teams (and numbers) with the normal BA one (which currently times out).
Guess I'll just wait it out and let those who fly much sooner than me get sorted first.
