NO, you can still send in manual meter readings even if a new supplier doesn't support smart meters or even your particular smart meter.

Hello JVBP and many thanks for your interest in joining us.
We're now fitting the later SMETS2 smart meters as standard. These meters retain their smart features following a change of supplier. With one of these meters, you'll be able move to another supplier without the issues seen with the earlier SMETS1.
There might be some installations (around 5 per cent) where, due to things like signalling issues, we're unable to fit SMETS2. In these cases, the technician will let you know and you can choose to either abort the job or go for a SMETS1. If you go for SMETS1, these meters will be upgraded by the end of this year so they can be managed in the same way as SMETS2. This includes staying smart after a switch. These upgrades are done remotely so there's no need for a second home visit.
Whichever option you choose, you'll be able to stay on the tariff even if we're not able to fit a smart meter at this time.
Hope this explains JVBP. Please let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.
