There have been many questions asked about cancelling holidays/do we pay the balance/will we get a refund etc etc.....??? But the matter of your holiday isn’t solely a financial one. This is an international crisis. Many of those working in any country’s hospitality industry will be drawn from abroad. So even if your holiday company/flights provider does turn around and say you are ok to go how ‘ready to go’ will your resort/hotel/ restaurants/bars etc etc be? What sort of place will you be flying to? Hospitality preparation takes ages - people can’t be magiced from thin air to service all your holiday needs and requirements. Even when this mess eases, the industry won’t just click immediately back into full-on mode - it’ll be like an old car engine, slowly cranking itself up before it gets going, with quite a few coughs and splutters along the way.
Every international expert on the planet says this thing is long term: likely to be many more weeks and months. Tour operators know this as well but they are disingenuous about it, making people hang on and sitting on deposits and balance payments in the full knowledge that in all likelihood any holiday booked for September and earlier is at very risk of being unfulfilled.
So if possible don’t make your decision whether to cancel or pay up just a financial one, consider the overspill consequences of this international crisis on the quality of your holiday.
