This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.ge

Good morning everyone
Couldn't sleep again for worrying so I have come downstairs to make a list of all the local businesses who will deliver while this is all happening. We are very fortunate in that we have 2 excellent butchers and a lovely bakers as well as quite a few fruit and veg sellers so hopefully we will be able to support their business by getting some supplies from them. It has made me feel a bit better so that is good. We also had an appeal from one of the local care homes appealing for people to write a letter or a card to the residents as they were upset about not having any visitors for the foreseeable future. As I love making cards and have lots in stock as it were I am happy to do this.
My friend phoned me yesterday and upset me a lot due to their inappropriate conversation. I can tell she is getting very 'high' again so I hope her mental health worker will be able to still come and see her. She is supposed to stay home due to her age and vulnerabilities but I can't see that happening and I am going to have to be very strict about not letting her come here. It is such a worry for me and her family. My lovely CPN is going to ring me every week and come to see me if necessary as he knows how anxious I get so I do feel I have some support. My physios are not coming for a while due to the virus so I will have to try hard to do the exercises at home.
I think we are having stew for dinner tonight which will be lovely. I made an orange and coconut cake yesterday as well but it made me feel quite sad at how much effort it took me when I used to be able to knock up some delicious cakes and puddings without thinking. Oh well, it tasted lovely anyway. Lee is off from college now so he will help me cook if I want him to.
It is my eldest daughter's 33rd birthday today. Where has the time gone? Unfortunately I can't see her to wish her a Happy Birthday to her face as my grandson was sent home yesterday from school as he isn't very well. It's hard because we always look after him and his sister so that Jemima can work. It's going to be very strange not seeing them all for a while as they are so used to popping in every couple of days as they only live round the corner.
Right, Phoebe is getting ready for work while she still has a job and I will be going to watch a comedy or something to cheer me up a bit. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning All
Thanks for the birthday wishes, it was a strange day! My doom and gloom mood lifted once I got to work, I think I feel better now I know what's happening - school closes tomorrow for goodness knows how long. Not sure what we will be doing, we will probably be redeployed but will have to wait and see.
I popped in to see DD and Sophie on the way home from work and some friends called in for a glass of something chilled so not a bad evening. I'm meeting up with more friends later but at one of their houses so sort of keeping to the rules!
Tough times for us all but we can support each other. Take care. XX13 -
Hello all I've just lost a large post, so I'm gnashing my teeth down to the gums grrr. Belated birthday wishes to Snoozer and Camelot, and hope everyone is ok.

I was woken at 5.30 by birds in the loftthey gor in there once before and OH got up there and blocked the hole up well they are back again and by the sounds of it they are having a right old party up there !! I have told him to get up there at the weekend again and block it permanently
I went to the local warehouse type shop yesterday and it was heavingthey had limited what you could buy though which is good, I did stock up on tins of beans and tomatoes and got two large milk and two loaves, got home only for mum to phone asking for bread and milk so I took her one of each and left them on the doorstep we spoke briefly but from a distance, I am going shopping again today with my sister and we will get a good stock for mum then as well, I am going to try and get meat to freeze and quorn stuff for dd but we will see.
Shopping wiped me out yesterday so I had a nap in the afternoon and will probs do so again today. Not sure about dinner tonight will have a think and get something while out.
Have good days all and stay safe xx.15 -
Morning everyone
dumpling - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 gone to work too, I'm bathed, just finished my porridge and a cuppa whilst on here, DS2 settled and happy.
Light wet and cooler air here this morning.
Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausages, beans/spagetti hoops and mushrooms. Not sure about tonight - depends on what I can get at the SM!
I have a large "to do" list so will be cracking on with that - I'll just get as much done as I possibly can I need to shop for DH's parents too - not much needed though. My parents have said they're ok too.
Work wasn't too bad yesterday - I'm now on days' off - so will wait to see if I'm contacted in this time with an update of what is happening - I'm supposed to be working on Saturday to cover sickness, that's assuming nothing changes between now and then!
Keep safe and well x

Good morning folks. The sunny start yesterday didn't last as rain took over. Today looks more hopeful. The dining room is slowly being cleared as the builders need tools for downstairs, I'm expecting the plasterer today and more 'stuff' being taken out - as long as the blokes are well.DM's cleaner is coming so I'll nip out to get a couple of things. We're stocked up so only need milk and eggs and some sprouts. Last night I booked a delivery slot for next month in case things get more difficult here. Meanwhile I'm planning a day trip home for next week as I have a Costco packet of loo roll and one of kitchen roll in my small barn which will come in useful. One of my lovely friends sent me two little bottles of hand sanitizer, just like atomisers, which is so kind of her.I hope that everyone is coping and doing well. Happy Thursday to all.14

Morning folks and thanks DUMPLING. I think a lot of us are having problems sleeping with worrying just now. We are sailing in unknown waters.
When the girls were young they would have been delighted to hear their school was closing but now they are not so happy about it. Eldest DGD should have been doing her GCSE's this summer and is worrying about all exams getting cancelled. DD is in the 'key worker' category but she's not sure about arranging for the girls to go into school. She doesn't work full time and is on a 4 week rota with each week involving different days or weekends and, to avoid messing school around sending them in different days, she thinks she is going to trust eldest (15) to oversee the younger two (now 9 and 11) Normally I would have had them as usual but times have changed. They are sensible girls so hopefully all will be ok.
All the plans I had for catching up on jobs whilst isolated have yet to start and I am still wandering around in sloth mode, watching all the news progs and worrying about what sort of future will be ahead for us all.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for everybody in these worrying times. Thinking especially of our poorlies, recovering, sad or lonely. Take care all xx

Morning all
Up early here I was going to write about things that i cannot change and are worrying me greatly but I am instead going to write about the positive DD2 has had her moving date pushed forward so need to sort out a van for that and pop to the registry office as they have a nice orangery for hire that is available on the day we are going so maybe use that for the reception . We also need to look for decorations ,her friends will do a playlist ,and mums neighbour will do the catering .DH and DS are putting a ring security light for my mum out the back of her house she already has the bell due to two burglaries in her small road of 8 houses. Food stocks are fine here and i have booked tesco deliveries for mum for the next few weeks i shall use local shops for my odd bits that i need as i have plenty in to see us through at the moment.
Hugs and extra strength to those with worries we will get through this if we all pull together there some great people out in our communities and the good that is happening will out shine the bad xSlava Ukraini14 -
Good morning and belated birthday wishes to camelot.
Thank you for starting today's thread Dumpling and happy birthday to Jemima.
Today I have a telephone interview to do, same tomorrow. A final one to organise and then I can complete my report, and this phase of that job will be complete. What happens next is anybody's guess, it is a report for the court and how they will manage applications is hard to predict. I don't think I'll be able to work for the foreseeable future though. I have a visit planned in about ten days, will probably have to do a telephone catch up instead.
So far, we are not in isolation as such but I'm having to do the social distance thing. And I am though it will be harder as the weeks go on. But having hermit-like tendencies helps.
Hope everyone is well and safe.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back15 -
Morning all.
I seem to have missed some birthdays, so will have to offer my best wishes to the Birthday Girls.
We do live in interesting times, don't we? I keep reminding myself that we managed for years on the most meagre of diets while I was growing up, but I do feel sorry for the younger generations who have always had a huge choice of everything and everything available to them 24 hours a day. No wonder they've been panic buying.
I don't even mind being isolated. I must have been a recluse in some earlier existence. Today I am sneaking out to go to the hairdressers, wearing heavy disguise of course. Both my sons have rung me to forbid me to leave the house. Surely they must know me better than that!
Dumpling, you have your family all round you, and from what I read, they will look after you and make sure that you are kept safe. I know that you think that is your job, but they are all old enough now to want to give back to you all the security you have given them through the years.
Crumbs. That is a long complicated sentence, I hope you can make sense of it.
My eldest son went to work yesterday only to be told that they were all to go home for 6 weeks at least and they would get sick pay. Within the hour he had got another job, and starts today. He is by way of being a workaholic and the thought of six weeks idleness was just too much. Though that was nothing to his distress at all the sports being cancelled. No football! How will he live? i found it hard to keep the glee out of my voice when he was complaining to me.
Hope everyone here remains free of nasty viruses. (Viri?)

Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.15
