TUI balance due - do we pay and hope?

Hi, booked TUI Egypt holiday end of last year for Mid-June and paid full deposit before current events. Balance (£2600) is due next week, do we pay? Guessing if we decide not to, we lose deposit (£400) but if we pay balance and are then unable to travel due to restrictions still being in place, would we get full refund from TUI? We do have travel insurance via a packaged TSB account and I checked last week that current issue is covered, it is but only if restriction is put in place within 31 days of departure. We would be paying balance on credit card, would that afford another avenue for recompense if holiday cannot be taken due to events out of our control? Thanks in advance. Good luck to all in these uncertain times. Regards, M

  • We are in the same situation.
Travelling with TUI the middle of June with balance to pay by Monday.
I'm realy unsure what to do even tho my insurer contacted me to say we were covered provided we had taken our insurance out by the 13th March which we had..
Good luck with whatever you do,it seems so uncertain with not a lot of solid information to go by.

This has been asked and answered numerous times. And the answer is simple. PAY THE BALANCE or you waive all rights to a full refund when the provider cancels the holiday.

    Thats it.

Thanks bradders1983 I thought this but was just after some form of confirmation. Could see other posts like this but no answer to them. Ellieduval, hope your situation sorts itself as does ours. Refund or shift of holiday is all I'm after if this means keeping everyone safe at this time.
  • Hi our holiday is to be paid in full next week set to lose £400 if we cancel now . Holiday booked with tui for June this year . So do I gamble and pay the balance which is £1600 and hope for Devine intervention, at the moment I can only see things getting much worse with this unthinkable devastating global problem everyone is encountering. Hope you can advise. Don’t know what to do . Thanks

Literally been asked (and answered) two threads below yours, and about 30 times this week:

Well, short of ringing the tour operator up, and sitting in a queue for hours and hours, you could just take my word for it?

If TUI is unable to deliver your holiday they HAVE to refund you in full but only if YOU stick to payments. Everyone else will say the same thing.  If you don't pay the balance you wave all contractual rights to get anything back at all.

Already planning on speaking to TUI today but thought this forum may add some knowledge to the situation for me. Hearing what you are saying and totally as we thought, so thanks for your input on this :)

We are due to travel with Tui to Rhodes on 18th April.  Obviously not happening.  We are just sitting tight and waiting for them to contact us with options.  We also have a trip booked to Lanzarote in June also with Tui.  Now paid in full.  I am still optimistic we can go but again it’s a waiting game.  There is a note on their website saying the latter holiday can be changed to any other holiday on sale without charge.  However, I don’t think that means at the same price as your current booking.  We booked 11 months in advance so got a good price.

Simon Calder (a lot of UK people will know who I mean) advised yesterday that if you have booked a package, paid a deposit and your balance is due then pay the balance as you will get it all back if the holiday is cancelled.

If you don't pay the balance you will lose your deposit.

ETA: our balance for our June holiday is due today.
OH is paying it as I type.

It is also covered in the MSE article -
I would suggest the whole article is read but if not scroll down to the section titled "I've booked a trip, but I'm paying for it in instalments. I don't want to go – can I stop paying?"
