Share Dealing Query

Hi,

Considering buying some shares at the moment but my old share dealing account with Halifax has been closed due to inactivity, not used it for several years) so fair enough.

Upon looking online quickly, I see Hargreaves Lansdown are doing  a share dealing account called Fund and Share account.  Could anyone confirm that IF i opened an account and purely purchased shares through it, am I right in assuming there is no annual charges or anything and all I pay is the dealing charge at the time of buying them and then a dealing charge and presume stamp duty when I sell them?  Also, if i transferred cash into the account and left it there for a bit until I decided what I wanted to buy and how much etc, is the cash protected by FCSC whilst it is in the share dealing account as cash and obviously not being used to buy shares? I'm not investing big money so no where near the 85k FCSC protected limit.

Never had an account with them before so want to make sure, on the plus side the dealing charge is a bit cheaper than Halifax :)  Is the platform easy to navigate and figure out how to buy the shares I want to?
Thanks all!

Kev

Depending upon what you wish to trade and the volume of trading activity maybe cheaper alternative options than HL. I use x-o at £5.95 a trade and no account fee. Someone else can fill in the other options.

Thanks for that, i'll take a look at x-o but not one I've heard of tbh.  Anyone know about the H&L account?
    Thanks

Hi, Kev, yes, no charges for holding shares, cash is protected ( https://www.hl.co.uk/about-us/cash ), and the website is super easy to navigate. HTH.

Thanks, just tried to open an account, filled in the form and amount to put in account etc and it then went back to the page wit the button saying open account at the bottom again... no email so far and no money taken from bank account as of now but now unsure if it didn't go through OR if ti has gone through but there is a delay as it says can open account in 10 mins...  Anyone else had this?
    Thanks
