Advice due to my holiday disrupted

Hi there, we were due to fly to Florida on the 20th April with virgin holidays. As you can imagine as everyone else what has happened has caused a lot of distress. Due to our dates being outside the current ban all virgin are offering is a fee free change to my holiday dates. Which they have just quoted me an extra £1500 on top of what i paid and £1700 more than what is quoted on their own website. Or I can have a credit note so that when restrictions are lifted we can contact them and re book. My issue with this is of course I know my package holiday is covered by Abta/Atol but what about a credit note as it’s not on a package. Can this be trusted some professional advice is needed please
