UK Travel...advice?

It seems everything's about international travel and no-one seems to be addressing this issue so I thought I'd pose my question here.
I am currently on annual leave from work. I had a holiday to Italy booked for these 2 weeks to visit friends. Due to the current "tricky" situation, and as all flights have been cancelled, I decided by way of compensation to go away in the UK instead.
I booked a house rental on airbnb [hopefully its ok to say the name?] for a couple of nights break in Dorset. I would go there with my other half, by car. It would be only us two in the car and then alone in the rented house, though we intended to do a little walking in the area, but again, just the two of us.
Is this ok or should we not go?
Thank you

  • Hi, All the answers on here are concerning foreign travel. My question is as the UK Government has stated that only essential travel is allowed within the UK will the Travel Insurance Company pay out if I cannot travel within the UK for a spring holiday??
  • I believe this trip would be against Government guidance. You can only leave your house for food shopping, medical reasons, one exercise per day, and going to work if you cannot work from home.

You may be able to obtain a refund on your booking. This is down to the company's policies at present. I believe air bnb are issuing refunds for cancellations in the UK.

If the company will not refund, try your travel insurance and/or credit card provider.

Airbnb have hit upon the fairly arbitrary date of 14th of April for full refunds, though I doubt very much travel restrictions will be lifted by then.  Anything after then requires the agreement of the Host. Mine apparently has just declined for a booking three days after that date!

Whether Airbnb intend extending that date remains to be seen.
