Plumbers mate

Please can someone confirm that you can use plumbers mate instead of silicon on the sink waste plug hole.
It says on the tub use prior to final sealing with silicone
Thanks

  • 1. You can use it between the underside of the waste fitting's flange and the top of the sink or basin.
    2. I fit it as follows:
2a. Roll it into a "sausage", place in a circle around underside of the flange.
2b. Put the waste fitting into the basin / sink, then do up the back nut or rest of fitting (no washers), reasonably tight.
2c. Remove excess Plumber's Mait with a stick / blunt knife.
2d. Remove back nut / fittings and fit under appliance washers.  Replace back nut / fittings and do up to final tightness.
2e. Remove any additional extruded Plumber's Mait from appliance.  White spirit allows any last traces to be wiped off.
    3. Note that if a slotted waste is being used (most basins), then:
3a. Make sure the slots which allow overflow water to escape into the waste fittings aren't blocked.
3b. Use something like a Basin Mate to seal the threads under the appliance.
3c. If you don't use a Basin Mate, use a sealant such as LSX or ordinary silicone to seal the threads.
3d. You can use Plumber's Mait to seal the threads, but its difficult to apply only in the right place, and can get quite messy.

plumbers mait is crap, if it gets wet it leaks, it doesn't go off so dirt & hair just sticks to it, make the waste in with silicon
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
