Refund required instead of credit voucher/ postponed trip

My son has booked a backpacker trip to Australia flights leaving Saturday 21st March Flights and New Zealand Kiwi Bus travel booked through STA . He organised 6 week trip with Gap 360 , but has a letter saying this has to be postponed due to self isolation rules, STA has offered credit note. He can’t postponed as off to uni in September. Do we accept credit note if won’t refund but go through insurance to recover trip cost ? Thanks
