Is Square the most affordable card payment for a small biz? || Self-employed

Options

Hey folks, hope you are doing well.

I am writing regarding the most affordable card payment in the UK.
I have been looking for a while some a card payment options for small biz (sole trader), mainly due to some enquires from the previous clients.
It seems that square option, with an availability to use on-to-go, is a quite an interesting option, but also I have on my radar a PayPal option.
Is anybody has got any experience of using one of these systems, and would like to share with me her/his experience?
I will many appreciated.
To be frank, I am torn between those two options, nonetheless, I will reconsider something else if it will be more attractive in term of convenience and charges.

Thank you so much for any support you can give and I appreciate your time

Kind Regards,

Peter

  • I use izettle who charge 1.75%  Not had any issues with them. Plus after a certain period you can apply for funding and repayments are taken from the card payments. I looked at Square, but the differnce (1.69%) on fees is pennies and I can't be bothered to move to them.

Paypal charge about 2.75% so personally didn't bother with thwm.

Izettle have been great and the reader works a charm via a mobile app with easy text or email receipts. Online reports are great too for accounting purpose .

We use SumUp for the PTA.  We have a 3G one but if it's just you using it, get the cheaper reader that pairs with your phone (the 3G can be slow depending on signal anyway so we use it with a phone when we can).  It's 1.69% fee so one of the cheaper ones.  No monthly costs whether you use the 3G reader or not.  There are always offers on the readers or people can give you referral codes for money off so ask around!
  • Thank you so much rach_k & Retirebefore50!
I couldn't express how grateful I am for these suggestions.
I will look into these options soon.
Take care & enjoy your evening.
    Kind regards,
    Peter
