MSE Poll: Can your finances cope with the UK’s gradual shutdown?

MoneySeeker1 said:Am I the only one wondering if someone somewhere wants to find out which sections of people think they are personally in the best position here - so as to know more exactly how to specifically target them "after the event" for trying to get money out of them to cover all the costs the country as a whole has in dealing with this?I would doubt that was the purpose of the poll. The thread was started by a member of the MSE paid team.It was started on 17th March. That was before pubs, clubs, restaurants were forced to close (on 20th March), before social distancing was advised (23rd March). Before the government announced help for millions of employees unable to work, followed by help for self-employed unable to work.Started when people were advised to pay final holiday balances 'because they'd get their money back' and now the government is considering changing the law to allow travel companies to issues vouchers instead of cash refunds.Started at the time the death toll was under 100 - now it's well over 1000.I would say that the majority of people who would have said that yes, their 'finances could cope with the UK's gradual shutdown' may be revising that viewpoint now with the UK's rapid shutdown.0

The Government are clearly wheeling other people into place to get over messages and doing various bits of kite-flying elsewhere - Carol Vorderman (maths lessons), Joe Wicks (exercise lessons online), etc, etc. This forum is a blindingly obvious one and I've seen various little witters that make me think they may already using it to "suss us out" on one or two things.
Well - if I was trying to gauge public feelings/knowledge/etc about issues to do with money - then I am damn sure this forum is going to be one of the places I'd do it.
I've certainly seen Government kiteflying going on elsewhere - by some "expert" or other coming out with their "personal" (oh really?????) idea in newspapers and waiting to see if they get monstered or agreed with. It's gotta be one of the quickest/easiest/cost-free ways of doing an opinion poll I can think of.0 -
Sorry, I must have missed where Joe Wicks, the floppy haired "body coach", was a Government stooge.
I know there are shortages in the supermarkets but a roll of tinfoil shouldn't be too hard to find.1
