Planning enforcement notice during purchase of property

We are about to close our sale and move to exchange of contracts as buyers of our first home. As the owner had a rooftop terrace on the flat non-demised roof we asked the council to confirm if there is any issues with it and they seem to have put forward a planning enforcement as it turns out there out the current seller doesn't have planning permission which we expected it.
Does anyone has experience with having a planning enforcement raised during a purchase of a property? We were told this might take some time to get resolved!

IMO (no expert) exchange should be put on hold until the situation is at least clarified.if the council should require it to be removed, or there are costs involved in compliance with regulations, you don't want to be on the hook for it, or at least you need some idea in order to negotiate a drop in price.Have you tried asking on the House buying part of the forum?

We had to as the seller was not going to do it himself, we will see how he reacts and probably pull out of the sale as I'm pretty sure that he will also realize we did this. Anyway i'd rather have it done now than when we would've owned the place!
