I have a hotel booked for August. These are the T&C, I can read this two ways - either I pay the total sum regardless of whether I turn up or not, or I can just lose the deposit already paid - what do you think?
First night’s room and tax and resort fee due at time of booking. Deposit is non-refundable. Reservation cannot be changed or canceled. Deposit is non-refundable. First night’s room and tax and resort fee due at time of booking. Deposit is non-refundable.

Have you booked and paid for just one night?
Assuming you have booked a one night stay and paid the equivalent of the one night rate, plus tax plus the resort fee I would interpret that you forfeit that if you cancel or no-show. If you booked more than one night and cancel, you forfeit no more than the total lose equivalent to one night, plus tax and resort fee.1 -
