if I go to https://www.ryanair.com, enter 2 adults, 1 child return trip to Rome (CIA) from London Stansted on Sat 8th October, it quotes £5.99 per adult and £7 per child. (£5.99 was what Flightchecker was quoting me).
If I enter 3 adults it quotes £12.99 per adult! Is this fair? Surely an adult seat for the same trip should be the same whoever you're travelling with? I realise if you check the price at different times you will get different results but this difference is purely based on whether I have an infant travelling with me. As it happens my infant turns out not to be an infant, being just under 3 but it seems very cheeky to me.
Also, at what age do you have to pay Airport Taxes - presumably it is a government thing rather than an airline thing. Also the PSC charge - what age does that start?
and why do the taxes and charges differ so much between EasyJet Gatwick to Rome and RyanAir Stansted to Rome where EasyJet charges a total of £39 taxes and charges and Ryanair charge £77.25 - albeit that the total cost with RyanAir is cheaper thanks to the basic airfare price.
thanks
Phil

I was just about to post a thread about the taxes that they charge and wondered if anyone knew the answer to why they vary so much as I have looked at flights as in the example above and the BA flight (for example) that is priced at £35 each actually works out cheaper in the long run than the Ryanair flight for 0.01p because of the taxes charged!!
I think there should be a clearer pricing strategy for flights and the prices quoted should include taxes from the onset so it isn't misleading, or have a standard rate for the taxes so it makes sense!
Phil I'm not sure about why you are getting two different prices, tis daft! I have done the same search and got the £5.99 one later in the day but the earlier one is not available for 3 adults. Infants only get charged the £7 fee as an adminstration fee as they will be sitting on your lap and not taking up a seat, with this in mind I can only assume that the earlier flight has less seats left??

it could be that they only have two seats left at the £5.99 price , so when you are trying to book for three it then automatically puts you into the next pricing bracket. Also, at what age do you have to pay Airport Taxes"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."
happy travels !!

The taxes are the same for both companies if they fly the same route but Ryanair headline prices cover the cost of the aircraft, the pilots & the cabin crew but don't include any of the services provided by the airport (checkin, security, gates, hard standing, ATC, etc) which Easyjet include in it's prices.
That's why you should use something like https://www.skyscanner.net as that shows you the price you end up paying rather than the headline price0
