Home/Garage insurance

Hi.
I'm looking for a comprehensive building's and contents insurance but I need around £10,000 cover fishing tackle and diy tools in my brick built garage. I'm struggling to find cover, any advice where to try.
Thank you.
Stuart

Whats the issue? As long as the tools are not business use they will be covered. Anything valuable
may need to be listed to be covered.

Think my contents covers around £100k.  More than we need but it was standard with the policy.

  • I'm in the same situation....check the small print. The total contents limit doesn't apply to outbuildings! Most insurers have quite a low limit for contents of garages or outbuildings. Generally £1500 for "basic" policies up to £5,000 or so for the "bells and whistles" ones.  So if you've £10k worth of kit in your garage your going to be under insured and subject to the dreaded "averaging" if you make a claim and they check. Incidentally £10k replacement cost is not unreasonable for a home workshop, especially one built up over many years.

If it’s an internal limit average won’t apply.
