Selling a private number plate on retention
Hi Folks
I hope you can help.
We want to sell a number plate that we have on retention.

We want to sell a number plate that we have on retention.
The person who wants to buy it does not yet have the car that he wants to put it on, so there is no vehicle to assign it to.
We have a V750/1 form but can’t find any advice in the DVLA site for this situation. We have tried calling them, but can’t get through.
Has anyone had any experience of this situation?

Has anyone had any experience of this situation?
We advertised the plate on line, and so we don’t know the purchaser personally, but both parties obviously want to feel secure in the purchase.
Many thanks for your help.

this from a leading registration selling company:
The Grantee name can not be changed on either the V750 Certificate of Entitlement or the V778 Retention Document. Ownership of the document itself can not pass from one person to another. The Grantee remains until the registration is assigned or transferred to a vehicle.
